Adele met Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson at the 2023 Grammys – a year after saying she “would actually cry” if she was ever lucky enough to meet the star.
In one of the viral moments of the night, the singer received the surprise of a lifetime at the Los Angeles awards show when host Trevor Noah introduced her to the wrestler-turned-actor.
“The person that Adele has always wanted to meet is Dwayne Johnson... I found out he’s a huge fan of yours, too,” Noah said to Adele at the start of the show.
Noah then introduced the pair, saying: “Adele meet The Rock, The Rock meet Adele,” which promoted laughter from the audience.
After grabbing her boyfriend Rich Paul’s shoulder, in surprise, Adele, 34, stood up quickly and received a big hug from the former professional wrestler-turned-actor, 50.
A red-faced Adele then turned away – visibly delighted at the surprise meeting.
Adele is a wrestling fan – and once told beauty blogger Nikkie de Jager in December 2021 she would “actually cry” if she ever met The Rock in person.
“I was the biggest wrestling fan when I was younger,” Adele said.
The Rock previously sent flowers to one of her concerts, with Adele saying she “literally fell off” her chair at the gesture.
“He’s amazing. He’s just incredible. I just want him to be my mate. I want him to be my friend,” she said to de Jager.
On Sunday night, Adele won the Grammy award for best pop solo performance for her hit song Easy On Me.
It was British singer’s only award of the evening, despite having been nominated seven times.
“Well thank you. I really was just looking forward to coming tonight – I want to give this to my son Angelo,” she said, accepting the award.
Adele said her partner, Rich Paul, had told her “not to cry” when accepting her award, but became visibly emotional anyway.
Speaking about the song, she said: “I wrote this first verse in the shower… thank you artists I f****** love you.”
Adele accepted the award from her new “best friend” Johnson.
