Chelsea are said to be targeting the arrival of a striker in the upcoming transfer window as Graham Potter looks to bolster his frontline, according to reports. The former Brighton boss has enjoyed an unbeaten start to life at Stamford Bridge and he's now looking to mould the squad to his philosophy.
Despite having scored 13 goals in his first six games as Blues head coach, Potter wants to sign a striker in January, according to French outlet Jeunes Footeux. The report states that former Arsenal target Jonathan David has been shortlisted and is being considered as an heir to 33-year-old Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Lille striker, who sees his deal at Stade Pierre-Mauroy expire in 2025, has featured 11 times for Paulo Fonseca's side in Ligue 1 this season, directly contributing towards 11 goals. His impressive displays once courted the interest of Mikel Arteta before the Gunners opted to sign Gabriel Jesus instead.

However, if the north Londoners reignite an interest in David and decide to rival Chelsea for the Canada international, then it could be difficult to persuade him against a move to the Emirates Stadium.
David hasn't hid his admiration for Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in the past, admitting that he frequently watched the Gunners during Arsene Wenger's reign as manager. Speaking to L'Equipe in May 2021, he said: ""European clubs made me dream. I watched Barca a lot, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, with Henry and Patrick Vieira."
Arsenal technical director Edu met with the David's agent at the end of last year. According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg at the height of the Gunners' interest, Lille set an asking price between €45million and €55million (£38m to £46m).
Chelsea's interest in a striker follows Aubameyang's poor display against Aston Villa at the weekend. Though, it must be said that the Gabon international has done well under Potter thus far.
