Graham Potter has confirmed he will make changes to his Chelsea team for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie away at Manchester City.
Chelsea travel to the Etihad Stadium looking to bounce back after their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday. Having made few personnel changes in his last two matches, Potter has hinted his wider squad will be used against City.
Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja are all frontrunners to start after making positive impacts from the bench against Arsenal.
Kalidou Koulibaly could also come into the team after returning from a knee injury in the 2-1 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb last week.
"Yes, we will do [make some changes] because some guys are pushing to play," Potter said. "That will be good. At the same time, we have to go there and be competitive and try to win the match."
Chelsea have six players out injured, including Ben Chilwell who recently saw his World Cup dream dashed due to a hamstring issue.
Potter is ready to use the mid-season break for the World Cup to get players back fit, but first faces tough assignments against City and then Newcastle on Saturday.
“That will help us," said the Chelsea manager. "We will have two or three key players back and a couple of other ones closer to being back. That is just how it’s been.
"We’ve had a bit of a perfect storm in terms of lots of games and injuries along the way. We have to deal with that and focus on how we can improve the team. As you can see today, there is work to do.”
