Graham Potter offers blunt five-word response amid major Chelsea criticism after Arsenal defeat

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has come under criticism following the Blues poor performance in the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

Potter's team selection was hampered after he confirmed that both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Ben Chilwell were ruled out of the London Derby. Chelsea are still missing the likes of Reece James, Wesley Fofana, N'Golo Kante whilst Kalidou Koulibaly and Mateo Kovacic were only fit enough to start on the bench.

Gabriel Magalhaes sealed the win for the Gunners as he poked the ball home at the back post from a Bukayo Saka corner after the ball passed by everyone in the penalty box. The lack of energy and fight was the main concern for fans rather than the result which leaves the west London outfit sat seventh in the table, level with Potter's former side Brighton.

Speaking after the loss, Potter was critical of his side's performance claiming the Blues lacked 'fluidity'. The Chelsea manager said: “Of course, it always is to lose a game like we did.

"We huffed and puffed I thought, but I think you could see the difference between the two teams in terms of confidence, in terms of points they’ve got, in terms of their structure and work together. We’re not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end, as much as it’s not nice to say, I think Arsenal deserved to win the game and were the better team overall. We have to take that and use it as motivation to improve.”

A disappointed Potter then offered a blunt five-word response to a reporter who claimed the Chelsea players looked like they didn't know what they were doing. One journalist said: "I don't want to sound harsh but it looked like the players didn't know what they were doing?

Potter responded: "I don't think that's true."

Chelsea have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League but turn their attention to Carabao Cup action as they face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in their third round tie on Wednesday night.

Potter will hope to see a positive reaction from his players as they aim to make it to the final for a second season in a row.
