Graham Potter has already made Conor Gallagher transfer decision amid £45m Everton bid

football.london understands Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have both already expressed an interest in signing Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea this January, ahead of reports of a £45m bid from Everton. However, head coach Graham Potter has not been willing to let the England international depart Stamford Bridge.

Following an impressive loan spell at Palace last season, Gallagher was incorporated into the Chelsea first-team squad in the summer by Thomas Tuchel. He made his debut as a late substitute on the opening day against Everton and his first start came two weeks later against Leeds United.

Gallagher has made 24 appearances for Chelsea this season but fewer than half of those have been starts. Still, he did enough to earn a place in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, although the midfielder wasn't afforded any game time during the tournament.

The 22-year-old has featured in each of Chelsea's matches following the World Cup break. The most recent of those came yesterday against Liverpool at Anfield, a game in which Gallagher impressed in an attacking role behind Kai Havertz. He had also stood out against former club Crystal Palace days earlier in the 1-0 win.

"I thought he was fantastic; great energy and great quality," said Potter after the game. "He was playing against a team he respects and likes a lot. He’s been frustrated because he hasn’t had the game time that he would like but at the same time, he’s worked unbelievably professionally to support the team. So it’s nice today that he’s got that reward and was part of a winning performance."

It has now emerged that Everton have made an attempt to sign Gallagher just one day before window deadline. According to Fabrizio Romano a £40m bid plus £5m in add-ons has been tabled for the midfielder. Everton had expressed interest in signing Gallagher last year also, when Frank Lampard was manager.

Other clubs also remain interested in Gallagher and Chelsea are looking to bring in a new midfielder of their own with Enzo Fernandez the subject of talks heading into the final hours of the window.
