Graham Potter handed major Chelsea injury boost as star pictured in action ahead of Liverpool

Chelsea's season has been far from ideal so far, with the squad languishing in tenth with almost as many losses suffered as they've celebrated victory. While instability from early last year over the ownership situation may have played a part, along with a mismatched squad and new management, injuries suffered to several first team stars has been a huge factor in the tough run of form so far.

Ten first-team players are currently on the treatment table, with some key players missing from a side struggling to reach the heights. "We're looking all the time, going over how it's happening," Graham Potter said on the trend of players facing long-term injury absences.

"Sometimes when you come in through the season it's difficult to know how it's happened. It's a bit of bad luck and also learning for us all how we can improve. The nature [of the injuries], it's not even a pattern, it's different problems. It's tricky. It's not like we’ve been over-training or anything like that. We certainly need to get to the bottom of it though."

One player that has struggled with constant injuries since joining the club last summer has been Wesley Fofana. The young centre-back joined for a £75million transfer fee from Leicester City, but has only managed to make six appearances for the Blues ever since.

However, it does seem as though he is finally making his way back to action, having been pictured wearing the Chelsea training gear in preparation of a return.

The news comes just before his side are set to play Liverpool on Saturday, with the Reds also struggling in ninth in what has been a difficult season for Jurgen Klopp's side. A return in that game may have come too soon for Fofana, given how close it is, the extent of his injury and the example set by Reece James as to how risky it could be to feature too early.

However, for Potter and fans alike, this news will come as a huge boost ahead of a critical run of fixtures to try and start a charge up the Premier League table.
