Graham Potter giving Armando Broja Chelsea opportunity to achieve Didier Drogba dream

There was lots of speculation surrounding the future of Armando Broja during the summer. Coming off the back of an impressive loan spell at Southampton last season, the likes of Everton and Newcastle United were reportedly eyeing up a move for the Albania international.

football.london understands that Broja was looked at closely by Thomas Tuchel during pre-season, with Chelsea without a recognised number nine until they signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on deadline day. Broja put pen to paper on a new deal last month, which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2028.

It appears both Chelsea and Broja have the right decision, with the 21-year-old looking bright when he's featured for the Blues this season, scoring his first goal in the 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday. Despite the arrival of Aubameyang last month, Broja looks as though he could be set for increased opportunities under Graham Potter.

Broja played 101 minutes across seven possible games under Tuchel earlier this term, whereas he's been used by Potter in every game, playing 72 minutes across four matches. Signing a deal until 2028, Broja is very much part of Chelsea's long-term future and looks set to be given the opportunity to fulfil his dream of surpassing Didier Drogba's legendary status.

'Wow! That's Frank Lampard, Drogba or John Terry right in front of me' when I would see them around," Broja told GOAL last year. "I loved to take pictures with them because I wanted to be them. I wanted to be in their shoes at the top level.

"Now I am approaching the age they were when they were playing. I want to try and surpass Drogba. It might not be easy, but that's my mentality and how I am feeling."
