Graham Potter gives honest verdict on Manchester United struggles ahead of Brighton fixture

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has provided his honest verdict on Manchester United ahead of the two teams' clash on Saturday evening.

United travel to the south coast on a high after a dominant 3-0 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane were all on the scoresheet to wrap up an underwhelming home campaign on a high.

Potter felt his side were unlucky to lose in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in February. Ronaldo and Fernandes both scored that day to sink the 10-man Seagulls 2-0.

But speaking to Sussex Live ahead of this weekend's game, Potter was reluctant to write off United despite their poor form this season. "I always say we can't do anything about the opponent's situation, all we can do is focus on ourselves," he explained.

"They played well against Brentford in the last game, they've got some fantastic players, and it's Manchester United coming to town so it's an exciting game for us. We have to make sure we're good, focus on the things that we do well, and do our best."

One familiar face who Potter may look to call on will be Danny Welbeck. The former United man has scored three times in eight matches against the Reds since leaving the club in 2014.

He has also hit a purple patch in recent matches for the Seagulls, grabbing a goal and two assists against Southampton and Wolves. On Welbeck, Potter added: "He is in a good place, playing really well.

"I would say he is playing as well as he has played since he's been with us. We are delighted for him and us."
