Graham Potter gave Cristiano Ronaldo verdict before Chelsea silence on Man United reports

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has already made his feelings on Cristiano Ronaldo clear despite being forced to dead-bat suggestions he wants to sign the Manchester United superstar. Speculation over Ronaldo and his future remains at fever pitch after he failed to secure a desired move away this summer.

At the time, the Blues were among several high-profile clubs to be linked with the Portugal captain. Now, amid reports that Ronaldo will be allowed to leave in the January window, Chelsea have re-emerged as potential suitors despite their former manager, Thomas Tuchel, reportedly vetoing him as a possible target at that stage.

Ronaldo has been offered little game-time by United this season and has only scored one goal since returning from his prolonged break. But what does Potter think about him?

Potter was pressed about Ronaldo during his latest press conference. Providing a dead-batted response, he said: "We can spend all day asking these questions and I am not going to speak about anyone else. I've got respect for anyone you mention or anyone that anyone else mentions, but if they're not our players I don't speak about them."

Albeit in different circumstances earlier in the year, Potter did speak about Ronaldo — before meeting the five-time Ballon d'Or winner during his time as Brighton manager. It came back in February when the Seagulls headed to Old Trafford.

On that occasion, before Ronaldo scored in a 2-0 victory, Potter said: "You run out of superlatives in terms of what he's achieved in his career and the player that he is.

"He's had an absolutely amazing career, world-class. Out-of-this-world-class. There's nothing else to say about that. Too often we zoom into individuals and forget that it's a team game."

Potter added: "From what I've seen, you still see the quality he has and the quality he brings to the group and the team. I have never played against him, we're looking forward to going there and pitting our wits against one of the best players of all-time."
