Graham Potter explains two key changes for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang amid ideal Chelsea form

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his third Chelsea goal in five matches on Tuesday night as the striker helped guide the Blues to a huge win at San Siro over AC Milan. Goals from the Gabon international and Jorginho saw the side win 2-0, earning all three points and jumping to top of the group.

It's a feat that seemed unlikely a few weeks ago, but the Blues' resurgent form under Graham Potter has seen them turn things around. "It’s obviously important for us to be there at the end of the group," Graham Potter said after the victory.

"And because of that we know we haven’t got enough points now and have to keep going and focus on the next match, which is Salzburg away and that will be a tough one. But between we have Premier League games and we have to focus on them and then we’ll be ready for that.”

While there have been plenty of positive changes early on in the days of Potter's time at Chelsea, perhaps one of the more surprising ones has been the form of Aubameyang. Wearing the so-called "cursed" number nine shirt as well as being a signing for former boss Thomas Tuchel, the striker has hit the ground running.

Under the new boss, the former Arsenal captain has bagged three goal in four games and has taken the control of finding the back of the net for the side. This was most apparent in the AC Milan clash on Tuesday, where a neat move found Sterling and Aubameyang in the same area, though the latter took control of the situation and tucked the ball away.

Amid his form, Potter reveals that two key factors have helped the summer signing, saying: "We’ve not done anything special, it’s all down to him. He has been building his fitness up.

"We spoke before that he came from a difficult summer so it’s been a case of building up his match minutes up and the more he gets the stronger he gets, and the more we understand him the more he understands us. Everyone knows his quality and it’s great for him. He looks like he is enjoying his football and scoring goals is important."

It remains to be seen if he can continue on his run of goals as things stand, but it's a promising insight to how far he could go under the new management staff.
