Chelsea may be able to solve two huge first-team problems in the January transfer window with a deal for Enzo Fernandez possibly helping the Blues acquire a Reece James backup. The 23-year-old defender suffered another knee injury in Chelsea's Premier League return against Bournemouth with the club confirming he is set to spend a month out.
Todd Boehly looks set to push for a backup option in January for James following his latest issue, with interest possibly being reignited in Inter star Denzel Dumfries following his World Cup exploits for the Netherlands.
According to a report from Sport Italia, Chelsea are set to make a concrete attempt to sign Dumfries from Inter in January. Following his World Cup performances, £53million is the asking price to even begin negotiations exploits but the report notes that it is unlikely Boehly will be put off by that fee.

On the topic of sizeable transfer fees, Enzo Fernandez has been the recipient of significant interest from west London with new technical director Christopher Vivell sent to Portugal to open official talks with Benfica. Fernandez does have a huge £105million release clause in his contract but football.london understands Chelsea are willing to pay above that fee to secure him if they can agree favourable terms.
The 21-year-old played a key role in Argentina winning the World Cup, starting six of his nation's seven games, scoring a superb goal in the group stages against Poland.
Atletico Madrid right-back Nahuel Molina was also was also a pivotal part of Lionel Scaloni's set up and a new report indicates he has admirers at Chelsea.
Marca claim that along with Fernandez, the Blues are interested in two of his national team-mates in Alexis Mac Allister and Molina. The report specifically notes that Molina would be brought in to fight with James for a spot at right-back, especially with the latter's 'constant injuries'.
Despite not even being a Chelsea player, Fernandez could play a role in Molina signing for the Blues given the duo are international team-mates and will likely have a good relationship following their exploits together in Qatar.
