Graham Potter confirms huge Chelsea injury boost amid big Edouard Mendy question vs AC Milan

Graham Potter has confirmed Edouard Mendy will return to the Chelsea squad for their clash against AC Milan on Wednesday.

Mendy has been missing since hurting his knee against West Ham United about a month ago. Kepa Arrizabalaga has been the goalkeeper for Potter's first two matches in charge in games against Red Bull Salzburg and Crystal Palace.

Potter, when speaking to the press ahead of Chelsea's crucial Champions League clash with Milan, refused to confirm whether Mendy would come straight back in the team. He did, however, reveal that he is once again available for selection.

The Blues head coach told reporters: "Eddie [Mendy] has been training with the team in the last few days and has made good progress. He'll be in the squad."

Potter also revealed that Jorginho and Kai Havertz felt some discomfort against Crystal Palace and will be assessed. N'Golo Kante has returned to training and is nearing a return from his lengthy hamstring problem, though.

"Jorgi felt a little bit of discomfort in his abdominal area against Palace but trained today," Potter continued. "Kai had a feeling as well

"NG is training more and more, not fully, but getting closer. That's really positive."

Potter was pressed further on Kante. The France international has had numerous spells out on the sidelines over the past couple of seasons so the Chelsea head coach spoke about the importance of getting his recovery just right to avoid further injury concerns.

"My focus is to help him rehabilitate in a good way so he is available for us," Potter said. "When he is on the pitch, he is a huge asset. The other stuff [contract] is between the club and him. There's not many players in world football like NG."
