Graham Potter compared to Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou as Chelsea to appoint new manager

Chelsea have been linked with a number of managers to replace Thomas Tuchel at the helm. The favourite is clearly Graham Potter, though, with the Brighton boss agreeing a deal to join the Blues as their new head coach.

Things still need to be ironed out between Chelsea and the Seagulls before they appoint Potter as Tuchel's replacement, and there are still myriad things that could go wrong. That is why Chelsea have been sounding out other coaches about the role, with Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane, and even Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim linked with the position.

Potter is the standout choice though, and as long as Chelsea can agree a compensation package with Brighton, he will become the new head coach at Stamford Bridge. One name who has not got many column inches, though, is Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou is actually being tipped to replace Potter at Brighton, but very few have talked about him as a potential Chelsea boss. That is probably because he has only had one season in European football, albeit winning the league and League Cup double with Celtic last season and having the Hoops in prime position at the top of the Scottish Premiership early this season.

Postecoglou was mentioned in dispatches on TalkSport, albeit tongue-in-cheek by Danny Murphy. But it did bring about an interesting comparison with Potter, for whom former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan does not believe is the right man for the job.

When talking about other candidates, to rile up host and Celtic fan Jim White, Murphy quipped: "Postecoglou?" When trying to give it more credence, Murphy added: "I know I said it with tongue 'n' cheek, but could Postecoglou be considered?"

That's when Jordan made the Potter comparison. he said: "It's about levels, isn't it? That's why I'd rule Potter out the equation."

Jordan did not think Postecoglou was at the desired level to be the next Chelsea manager. Nor did he think Potter was the right fit. Time will tell on that front.
