Graham Potter admits Chelsea could face potential problem with Joao Felix transfer

Graham Potter is relishing the chance to work with Joao Felix - but warns it could take some time for the Atletico Madrid loanee to adapt to life at Chelsea.

Felix, 23, has joined the Blues until the end of the season for a fee of just under £10million. Potter was in great need of more firepower in attack and hopes the Portugal forward can help remedy his side's woes in front of goal.

In moving to the Premier League, Felix is making a big leap, having never played outside of Spain or his homeland since making his professional debut in 2016. Potter has warned that the former Benfica prodigy may need time to adapt to life in England, although he is confident his new No.11 will have plenty to offer in front of goal and creatively at Stamford Bridge.

"He's been training and had game time, so from a physical perspective, he can go in," Potter said of Felix on Wednesday. "It's always a bit of an unknown going from one country to another, but how long that takes goes from player to player.

"I see a confident player and one that can impose himself on the game. He can take the ball, take it in tight spaces, make passes. He is a nice addition and I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"My thoughts are that you have to fix the team and it's not just one person to solve your problems. You have to fix the team, attack better, create more chances, then whoever is playing there can score and we can win."

While Potter is not necessarily expecting Felix to be at the peak of his powers for Chelsea in his first weeks at the club, he will be hoping he does not need to wait long. The Blues are in major need of a lift as they sit 10th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from the FA Cup and EFL Cup by Manchester City.

Further, they have scored the fewest goals of any team in the top half of the table and head into Thursday night's West London Derby against Fulham sitting three points and three places behind their local rivals, albeit having played one less game.

Felix scored five goals in 20 appearances for Atletico in the first half of the season, the same number as Kai Havertz managed for Chelsea. Raheem Sterling leads the scoring charts for the Blues with six goals to his name, but he - like many others at Stamford Bridge - has been underwhelming since his £50million arrival from City last summer.
