Construction company GRAHAM’s fit-out division said it has created 130 new jobs as it begins a project to refurbish BT’s headquarters in Belfast.
It will upgrade the 13-storey Riverside Tower to create 160,000 square feet of new office space which will eventually accommodate over 2,000 employees for the communications firm.
Part of a move to consolidate its office buildings, the refurbished building will see BT consolidate its UK bases from 300 currently to just 30 and is thought to be one of the biggest investments for the firm in Northern Ireland in recent years.
“We are delighted to have been awarded this major project that will create a fantastic future-fit workplace for BT," Mark Gibson, Managing Director of GRAHAM’s Interior Fit-Out division, said. "When it is finalised, it will help BT transform the way it works and how it serves its ever-growing customer base.
“This is our highest value fit-out contract to date in Belfast and the award demonstrates our reputation for delivering quality and customer service excellence in the office sector. GRAHAM has completed a significant portfolio of projects in the city, including Erskine House and Eagle Star House, and, once again, we look forward to showcasing our technical expertise and sustainability credentials on behalf of one of the UK and Ireland’s biggest companies at one of Belfast’s most iconic office buildings.”
The project is the fourth carried out by GRAHAM for BT, with the building firm currently building a 30,000 square feet project for the firm in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
“This is a real sign of our continued commitment to Belfast and also to Northern Ireland as a key strategic location for the business,” Jane Wood, BT Group Director, UK Regions, said.
