Graeme Souness warns Manchester City over Jude Bellingham 'bidding war'

Graeme Souness has warned Manchester City they face a potential bidding war if they want to sign England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The teenager was once again in fine form as England cruised into the last eight of the World Cup, dazzling on-watchers with another standout performance against Senegal. Linking up superbly with Jordan Henderson for the Three Lions' opener, Bellingham showed talent beyond his years.

Now, with clubs including Manchester United, City and Liverpool set to battle it out for his signature this summer, current club Dortmund are said to be holding out for a fee close to £120-150m. Souness echoed the praised cast Bellingham's way over the past 24 hours, insisting his talents are unlike anything he has seen from a player his age before.

"I think he’s fabulous and destined to be a star, unless he gets a big head on those shoulders or he gets a bad injury," began the former Liverpool man. "He’ll be getting a very good education where he is currently, and I’d imagine next year he’ll leave Dortmund.

"The really big guys - if it’s a bidding war between Man City and Real Madrid over who will win or where will the boy really want to end up. He’s got great athleticism, already got an old head on young shoulders, you see a bit of everything a midfield player needs to have, sees the picture early and delivers on it, will chip in with goals, got great size, and it’s hard to pick a fault in him. I think he’s going to be an absolute star."

Said to have been chasing the former Birmingham man's signature for a number of years, Liverpool are thought to be among the front runners to land the midfielder this summer, with Souness however insisting there current ownership problem could cause doubt over the move. "Unfortunately I don’t think he’ll end up at Liverpool because unless Liverpool get different owners, they will not be able to afford him," he added. "All the big guys will be after him."
