Rangers legend Graeme Souness would rather win a league title than a European trophy.
The former Ibrox player-manager insists emerging as top dogs over an entire season was the more satisfying achievement during his career.
With his old club Liverpool chasing a historic Quadruple that would include both the Premier League and Champions League, Souness was asked which of the two trophies was more significant.
It's a debate which has raged in Scotland over recent weeks with Celtic crowned Premiership champions and Rangers just 90 minutes away from winning the Europa League.
And he insisted his Anfield upbringing taught him the league was always the bigger victory.
He said on Sky Sports: "What would you rather win? The way I was brought up, the way I was educated over at Stanley Park, was the league.
"The league said more about you as a player, more about you as a team. It's a hard nine months, you cannot deny winning the European Cup at a glamorous city somewhere in Europe, beautiful summer's evening, it's a one-off and you can't say that's not the most wonderful feeling.
"When you win a European Cup, you sit there and go 'that was great'.
"When you win a league you have a moment to yourself where you go 'that was difficult at times, but look at us, we got through that'.
"Winning a cup in a one-off game, it wasn't the same for the group of lads I played with. Truly great players, they were disappointed they didn't win both of them.
"That was my lasting memory of winning those competitions."
