Graeme Souness has been slammed for his "man's game" remark after Chelsea vs Tottenham - with prominent pundit Eniola Aluko telling him "it's not okay."
Souness was on punditry duty for Sky Sports as they broke down a fiery London Derby that ended with both managers being sent off for a furious confrontation. Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel went head to head and had to be torn apart by the players and coaching staff, with Conte also getting into it with his former player Cesar Azpilicueta.
The emotional scenes after Harry Kane's late equaliser made had Souness appearing to celebrate the carnage. He said: “Referees are letting a lot more go and it allows for a better watch. It’s a man's game all of a sudden now. I thoroughly enjoyed both games today."And he later added: "I think we've got our football back, as I would enjoy football. Men at it, blow for blow, and the referee letting them get on with it."
He said it while sat beside former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Karen Carney, who was capped over 100 times for England, and appeared to raise an eyebrow at Souness. The comments come after the English Women's Super League penned a record TV deal with Sky, while England's European Championship win took the profile of women's football in the UK to another level.
And Carney's former England teammate Aluko tweeted: "Awkward turtles, Graeme Souness talking about 'it’s a man’s game again' sat next to an England centurion Karen Carney, two weeks after the Lionesses end a 56 year wait and win European Championships. Come on. It’s not okay."
