Graeme Souness has praised Liverpool duo Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez for their recent form.
The Reds forwards both scored two goals each in last week’s 7-0 demolition Manchester United. It took Gakpo’s goal tally to four since arriving at Anfield, while Nunez now has 14 for the season.
Gakpo signed in the January transfer window, and will cost Liverpool at least £40m with add-ons. Nunez has often been criticised in certain quarters following his £64.1m plus a potential £21.3m in add-ons move from Benfica in the summer.

But after watching the duo help claim Liverpool’s biggest ever win over Man United, Souness was impressed with what he saw. The Reds legend believes that performance can help kick on the pair’s careers at Anfield.
“I don’t want United’s ineptitude to obscure assessment of a Liverpool team who played extremely well,” Souness told the Mail Online. “Cody Gakpo looked like a Liverpool player. This should be the catalyst for him to say, ‘I belong at this level’.
“The same applies to Darwin Nunez. He is going to get three, four or five chances every game and although he’ll miss some and have off days, he’ll convert a lot, too.
“That’s just the type of player he is — big, quick, brave and he’s got a brain. I don’t think anyone enjoys playing against him. He’s going to be a real asset.”
