Graeme Souness makes Everton 'desire' claim as he assesses Leeds United's survival chances

Graeme Souness believes the Goodison Park crowd could give Everton that extra 10% over Leeds United in the Premier League relegation battle. Everton pulled off an improbable 1-0 win over third placed Chelsea last weekend in front of a combative Goodison Park crowd that made the Toffees stadium feel like a fortress.

The raucous atmosphere was one of the key factors attributed towards Everton's win, who have enjoyed a good run of form at home of late. The result left Leeds United sweating over their hopes of Premier League survival, with Jesse Marsch's side now sitting two points above the relegation zone.

Everton have a game in hand on Leeds, which is an away game against Watford who have the worst home form in the Premier League this season, meaning that Leeds United could be in the bottom three needing a result heading into the final two match days of the campaign. And Sky Sports pundit Souness believes the atmosphere on Merseyside for Everton's final few home games could be the difference between survival and relegation from the top flight of English football.

"They [Everton] competed all over the pitch from the first minute to the last," said Souness in the wake of the Toffees 1-0 win.

"They only had 22 per cent of the ball but they deserved to win the game simply because their attitude and aggression showed they were trying to win the game. The question you've got to ask yourself is, why has it not been like that all season?

"It's in the players, you can't just do it when the crowd are up for it. They have to be like that in every remaining game."
