Graeme Souness issues 'in danger' warning to Liverpool and Chelsea after Newcastle United win

TalkSPORT pundit Graeme Souness has warned his former club Liverpool, as well as Chelsea, about Newcastle United's top four potential after their 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron were enough to secure all three points for the Magpies, sending them into the top four above both the Reds and the Blues.

Souness made 347 appearances for Liverpool across seven years, scoring 54 goals and providing 23 assists, but now believes Newcastle could replace either Chelsea or Liverpool in the established top six at the end of the season.

Speaking on the Jordan and White show on talkSPORT, Souness said: "I know how difficult that job is, how difficult it can be to get everyone on your side.

"But I think the manager has done a fantastic job. When I saw them play against Liverpool, go to Anfield which is a hostile place, a difficult place to play, they arrived at Anfield and wanted to play Liverpool at their game and I thought they were fabulous.

"What I saw yesterday appeared to be a team with no fear, a team that have gone to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and said, 'Come on then. Is that all you've got?' and they were fabulous - on the front foot, aggressive and watching the game, they looked like a fitter team than what Spurs did.

"Newcastle right now are absolutely on fire - they are not a team any side wants to play right now. Look at Miguel Almiron, he couldn't buy a goal in the Premier League. Now he's got, what, a goal in three straight games? He's starting to look at home now.

When asked about who in the established top six could be replaced by Newcastle, Souness was quick to answer.

"The normal order is changing... and you have to say that Liverpool are in danger, you have to say maybe Chelsea are in danger so there is an opening there for Newcastle.

"The teams I'm watching right now, and you can't guarantee it, but I fancy Newcastle in terms of performances and attitude. They don't suffer a load of injuries either and they could easily end up in the top four."
