Graeme Souness has backed Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for a move to one of the Premier League’s leading teams amid reported interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 24-year-old played a starring role in Argentina’s famous World Cup win, scoring against Poland and assisting Angel Di Maria in the dramatic final win over France.
Even prior to the tournament in Qatar, the midfielder had been in excellent form for Brighton, scoring five times in 14 Premier League appearances before the break.
While the south coast club have lofty ambitions of their own, they have proven willing to sell their prized assets when big offers come in.
Ben White joined Arsenal for £50m in 2021 and Marc Cucurella was sold to Chelsea for £62m earlier this year.
Graham Potter’s exit to Chelsea and the subsequent influx of Brighton staff has naturally seen the Blues linked with a move, while Mikel Arteta has already confirmed Arsenal would be active in the transfer market.
“He’s a top-four player and the big guys will be looking at him now and thinking, ‘We’ll have some of that’. He has proven he can play at the highest level and has already done it in the Premier League,” wrote Souness in The Daily Mail.
“There is very little risk attached to this boy. He can create, score and works his socks off - that type of player, they are hard to find.
“At 23, Brighton won’t be able to keep him for long and good luck trying to negotiate a new contract.”
