Graeme McDowell out of US Open following Dallas disappointment

Graeme McDowell narrowly missed out on a spot in the US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club scheduled for next month.

At the 36-hole qualifying round at Dallas' Bent Tree Country Club and Northwood Club, eight spots were up for grabs.

The 2010 US Open champion missed out on a five-man play-off for the final two spots after three-putting the final hole at Northwood to place in a tie for 12th on seven under par.

American Carson Young shot to the top spot in qualifying with a score of 16 under in rounds 63 and 62.

Young's fellow countrymen Austin Eckroat, Brent Grant, Paul Haley, Jacob Solomon, and Hank Lebioda, Canadian Roger Sloan, and former Masters champion Sergio Garcia took the other coveted spots.

Garcia missed last week's US PGA Championship because he joined the LIV Golf Series and was not high enough in the world rankings. This was the first major Garcia had missed in 24 years.

Luke O'Neill, an Irish amateur, recorded two rounds of 73 and finished on five over.
