Grading the Bears’ selection of WR Tyler Scott in fourth round

The Chicago Bears selected Cincinnati wide receiver Tyler Scott with the 133rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

It was no secret that the Bears needed help at the receiver position coming into this offseason. They added DJ Moore via trade with the Carolina Panthers for the No. 1 pick, but were still thin at the position.

Chicago turned the Robert Quinn trade into a potential steal in Scott, who provides another weapon for quarterback Justin Fields.

Scott has been compared to Darnell Mooney for his speed and agility. Scott is a speedster, as evidenced by his 4.32 40-yard dash and he averaged over 16 yards per reception. Scott also has playmaking ability, averaging 44.6 yards per touchdown catch in college, according to The Athletic’s Dane Brugler.

Last season, Scott had a career year with 54 catches for 899 yards and nine touchdowns with Cincinnati.

While Scott does have a lot of positive traits, I feel like Parker Washington would have been a better selection if they were looking for a pure home run hitter.

Grade: B-
