Grace is based on the best-selling books by author Peter James.
Season one was a big hit for ITV, so it was no surprise the channel raced ahead with a second season that just made its premiere on the network.
Airing on Sunday April 24, viewers tuned in for another episode of the gritty detective drama.
However, many got more than they bargained for, with audiences taking to social media to complain about its graphic violence and sexual content within minutes of the broadcast.
The show remains massively popular, and here is everything you need to know about season two.
Why is there are backlash for Grace?
The second episode of season two featured sexual violence and graphic imagery within 15 minutes of the broadcast.
Kicking off at 8pm, it is one hour before the watershed, giving many more than they bargained for.
It showed a man hanging while dressed in fetish gear.
It certainly gripped audience’s attention from the off, but not entirely how the showrunners intended.
One Twitter user wrote: “8pm and they’ve shown a man hanging, I always thought things like that were shown after 9pm? #Grace @ITV."
Another tweeted: “Man hanging from the rafters in a g**p costume is a far cry from Last of the Summer Wine on a pre-watershed Sunday night…”
What is Grace about?
Grace season two picks up directly from where the first chapter left off.
The titular detective is still grieving the death of his wife while his career remains on a knife-edge, though he is a committed police officer and pours everything into the job.
However, he regularly clashes with his boss, something that has pushed him further and further from the, erm, graces of his fellow officers.
How many episodes of Grace are there?
Season one only boasted two episodes, though both were feature length.
Season two is similar, with only three episodes to contend with.
The third will air on Sunday, May 1, and will wrap up the new season.
Titled Dead Tomorrow, the plot kicks off when a body is found on the seabed of the English Channel.
It initially appears a burial at sea gone wrong, but a strange incision on the victim soon points to something darker.
Soon more bodies are found, leading to DS Roy Grace of Sussex Police getting involved.
Who stars in Grace?
John Simm stars as the haunted detective, Roy Grace.
The actor is best known for his role as DI Sam Tyler in Life On Mars, along with his more recent roles in Crime, Cold Courage, Strangers and Collateral.
He also played The Master in Doctor Who from 2007 to 2017, arguably the Time Lord’s greatest nemesis.
In Grace, he is joined by Richie Campbell, an actor who was recently seen in Top Boy, Stephen, Small Axe and Liar.
He plays Glenn Branson, Grace’s partner in the force.
Will there be Grace season three?
ITV is yet to confirm a third season of the show.
However, as it is based on a series of books, it is highly likely it will continue past season two and beyond.
There are 19 books overall, with the show only adapting five of them so far.
