New Delhi: Opposition parties on Thursday accused the government of indulging in political vendetta against its opponents and critics using investigative agencies as Congress President Sonia Gandhi appeared for questioning before the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Leaders of 13 parties met in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday morning ahead of Gandhi's questioning.

A joint statement issued by the parties said: "The Modi government has unleashed a relentless campaign of vendetta against its political opponents and critics through the mischievous misuse of investigative agencies."

Prominent leaders of a number of political parties have been deliberately targeted and subjected to harassment in an unprecedented manner.

"We condemn this and resolve to continue and intensify our collective fight against the anti-people, anti-farmer, anti-Constitution policies of the Modi government that is destroying the social fabric of our society," said the statement.

In the Lok Sabha, on Thursday morning, while Congress MPs protested against the questioning of the Congress president, other opposition members denounced the GST hike and price rise. (with Agency inputs)
