The government on Sunday issued a power crunch advisory for Monday over a possible supply-demand imbalance in areas served by Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (TEPCO).
It is the first time for the government to issue an advisory since the new alert level was introduced in May.
Extremely hot weather is forecast for Monday, and the reserve margin -- the total capacity in the power supply system -- is expected to fall to 3.7% in the evening in TEPCO-served areas.
In the system, advisories are issued at around 4 p.m. the day before the margin is expected to drop below 5%.
