The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday designated Jaish–e–Mohammad’s Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir, a key conspirator of the 2019 terror attack on a CRPF convoy at Pulwama, as a ‘terrorist’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). As many as 40 CRPF personnel were killed in the suicide attack.
The MHA said in a notification Alamgir alias Mujahid Bhai is a senior member of banned terror outfit JeM and is a resident of Bahawalpur in Pakistan.
“Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir has been involved in Pulwama Central Reserve Police Force convoy attack of 2019...is involved in anti–India terror activities on behalf of Jaish–e–Mohammad,” the notification said.
It said Alamgir looks after JeM’s fund collection activities from Pakistani nationals and routes the said fund to Kashmir in India.
“Alamgir has been involved in facilitating infiltration of Afghan cadres and coordinating terror attacks on Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir...the Central government believes that Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir is involved in terrorism and should be notified as a terrorist under the said Act,” the notification said.
The 1967 Act, amended in 2019, empowered the MHA to designate individuals as terrorists. Earlier, this provision was applicable only to terror organisations or groups but not individuals. So far 33 individuals have been designated as terrorists.
