Governor Nikki Haley criticizes US withdrawal from Afghanistan and Taliban negotiations

Tragic withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

In a recent discussion with Governor Nikki Haley, the topic of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan was brought up, specifically addressing the criticism that both the Biden and Trump administrations faced regarding their respective roles in the decision-making process. Governor Haley worked closely with Donald Trump during his presidency, providing valuable insights into the matter.

Haley acknowledges that the American public's desire to bring an end to prolonged wars was a significant factor in the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan. It was widely believed that the United States had been involved in the country for an extended period, attempting to rebuild and reshape its culture. However, according to Haley, this approach was flawed, as it is impossible to impose foreign values on a society that is not ready or willing to adopt them. She emphasized the importance of focusing on protecting American lives rather than engaging in nation-building efforts.

Reflecting on the negotiations carried out by the Trump administration with the Taliban, Haley expressed her disagreement. She firmly believes that any form of negotiation with the Taliban should never even be considered, emphasizing that the presence of the Taliban on U.S. soil, be it at Camp David or elsewhere, should be strictly avoided. Haley views opening diplomatic channels with the Taliban as a mistake, considering them an uncompromising group.

Addressing the deadline-oriented approach taken by President Biden, Haley suggested that rushing the withdrawal to coincide with September 11th was a political move. Drawing from her experience as part of the National Security Council during the Trump administration, she revealed that a similar scenario had been presented, and the advice given at the time was to send an additional 5,000 troops to conduct the withdrawal properly. In Haley's opinion, Biden disregarded this advice and failed to ensure the safety of Americans and the protection of national security interests.

Haley expressed her deep concern upon witnessing the aftermath of the withdrawal, particularly in terms of the abandoned cash and equipment, which fell into the hands of the Taliban. She recounted the distressing moment when her husband, who had served in Afghanistan, recognized the vehicles being driven by the Taliban, the American uniforms they were wearing, and their mocking behavior towards U.S. soldiers. This sight was immensely demoralizing for both her husband and the countless individuals who had dedicated over two decades of their lives to serve in Afghanistan.

Haley concluded by emphasizing that political theatrics and deadlines should never supersede the safety of Americans or the best interests of national security. The focus should always remain on ensuring the well-being of U.S. citizens and making decisions that serve the long-term stability and security of the nation.
