Governor Beshear presents more than $3.6 million for city, county, nonprofits in Woodford County

Governor Andy Beshear was in Versailles Wednesday afternoon to hand out oversized checks worth more than 3-point-6 million dollars. Among them was one for a million dollars from the state’s Cleaner Water Program for the City of Versailles. Mayor Brian Traugott was appreciative.

“This is really going to help just right down the street here, right past the police station on Frankfort Street, it's going to help reliability, it's going to increase the pressure, which will improve the day to day service and also the fire protection.”

Beshear’s speech and others were made before a large crowd in what will next year be the Rickhouse Hotel, which will feature a working distillery. Woodford Judge-Executive James Kay said the hotel is part of a renaissance for the city.

“And it's going to make downtown Versailles a different place with year-round lodging for tourism for Keeneland for all the things that go on, and it's gonna marry well with our revitalization project.”

In his remarks, Beshear credited the General Assembly, too, saying he’d signed more than 600 bipartisan pieces of legislation – among them the Cleaner Water Program he handed out 2-point-8 million dollars worth of checks from this afternoon. Beshear is running for reelection this November against Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
