Governor Abbott receives support from Republican governors on border crisis

Republicans are supporting Governor Abbott in Texas against the Biden administration.

In response to the ongoing situation at the border in Texas, Republican governors across the nation have expressed their support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott and are discussing ways to provide assistance in challenging the White House's handling of the border crisis. One governor who has taken action is Henry McMaster, the Republican governor of South Carolina.

Governor McMaster has pledged to send troops and provide any necessary support to Governor Abbott in Texas. He strongly believes that the situation at the border has already reached a point where it can be considered a constitutional crisis. McMaster criticized the Biden administration for not enforcing the laws outlined in the Constitution and leaving it to individual states like Texas to take action. He highlighted the alarming number of illegal immigrants entering the country, estimating that by year-end, there could be around 10 to 11 thousand undocumented individuals, which is larger than the population of many states.

Regarding the recent Supreme Court ruling, McMaster clarified that the decision did not require Texas to dismantle their border security measures but instead allowed federal agents to cut through them if necessary. He emphasized that Texas has every right to maintain and reinforce its border barriers. However, McMaster expressed concern over reports that Border Patrol agents are allegedly assisting individuals to enter the country without proper checks, potentially posing a threat to national security.

When asked about the potential response if federal agents were to dismantle the razor wire, Governor McMaster suggested that Governor Abbott should quickly repair and restore the border barriers once the agents leave. He reiterated that the Supreme Court ruling did not prevent Texas from reinstating these security measures.

Governor McMaster also raised questions about the Biden administration's approach to immigration, expressing his dismay at the reported lack of border control. He shared unverified reports of planes landing at airports in South Carolina where individuals disembark without proper identification or law enforcement procedures. These incidents, according to McMaster, underscore the need for stricter immigration policies and improved border security.

As discussions continue around addressing the border crisis, President Biden has proposed a Senate measure aimed at fixing asylum laws and addressing parole loopholes. Although the measure has shown some bipartisan support, its passage remains uncertain, especially in the House. Governor McMaster viewed the President's statements with skepticism, cautioning that the administration's promises should be taken with a grain of salt due to their track record on border security.

Governor McMaster also expressed confidence in former President Donald Trump's chances of securing the Republican nomination for the upcoming presidential election. He believes that President Trump will not only win South Carolina but also many other states by significant margins. However, he avoided commenting on the potential outcome for other candidates in the race.

In conclusion, Republican governors like Henry McMaster are standing in solidarity with Governor Abbott in Texas. They are concerned about the constitutional crisis unfolding at the border and are exploring various means to support Abbott's efforts. These governors are advocating for stronger border security measures and criticizing the Biden administration's approach to immigration enforcement. Meanwhile, discussions about proposed legislation to address the asylum system and parole loopholes continue to evolve.
