House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has confirmed that the current government funding plan has been officially scrapped following President-elect Donald Trump's opposition to it. Despite this development, Republicans have yet to devise an alternative plan.
Scalise acknowledged that the plan unveiled on Tuesday has been discarded, stating, 'Yes,' when asked about its status. He mentioned that a new agreement has not been reached and Republicans are still deliberating on how to link a debt limit increase to government funding in light of Trump's recent demands.
Scalise emphasized that negotiations and discussions are ongoing, but as of now, no new agreement has been reached. When questioned about the inclusion of a debt limit increase in the potential new deal, Scalise clarified that there is currently no finalized agreement and that various options are being considered.
Regarding the discussions surrounding the debt limit in relation to the continuing resolution (CR), Scalise noted, 'We've been having some conversations about the debt limit, as it relates to the CR. So, you know those are ongoing conversations.'
Scalise also mentioned that he has not had direct communication with Trump on the matter today, indicating that the negotiations and planning are still in progress.
