Despite the non-endorsement from unions like the International Association of Fire Fighters and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Walz commended the majority of union leaders who backed the Democratic ticket. He stressed the importance of Democrats effectively communicating their policies to address any disconnect with union members and the middle class.
The decision by some unions to remain neutral or break tradition by not endorsing a candidate raised concerns among Democratic lawmakers. Rep. Jim McGovern criticized the workers' support for Trump, highlighting what he perceived as Trump's lack of allegiance to working people. Rep. Nancy Pelosi expressed disappointment over the Teamsters' choice, citing Democratic efforts to support unions and workers.
In contrast, President Trump viewed the non-endorsement as an honor, suggesting a shift in union support away from the Democrats. Meanwhile, Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris received endorsements from various major unions, including the United Auto Workers Union, AFL-CIO, American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association, and United Steelworkers.
