Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz engaged in a roundtable discussion with Black voters in Detroit, Michigan, as part of his campaign tour in the battleground state. During the session held at the Westin Book Cadillac hotel, Walz emphasized the importance of increased investment in the Black community and attentively listened to the concerns raised by participants.

Accompanied by Harris campaign senior policy adviser Brian Nelson, Walz received feedback from attendees, including one individual who expressed apprehensions about Vice President Kamala Harris' past as a prosecutor and its impact on their interactions with law enforcement.

In response, Walz highlighted Harris' proposed 'opportunity agenda' as a means to bolster wealth within the Black community and address issues stemming from law enforcement encounters. He defended Harris' approach, noting her commitment to striking a balance between advocating for criminal justice reform and ensuring community safety.

Walz underscored the significance of early interventions, such as childhood development, job opportunities, and homeownership, in preventing negative interactions with the criminal justice system. He commended Vice President Harris for prioritizing these foundational aspects and promoting access to capital.

The meeting in Detroit marked the initial stop on Walz's Michigan tour ahead of the upcoming election. His itinerary includes engagements with union workers in Taylor, Michigan, as well as rallies scheduled in Flint, Michigan, and Traverse City, Michigan, later in the day.
