This is not the first time Kennedy has been considered for a Cabinet position. In 2008, President-elect Obama reportedly contemplated appointing Kennedy to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

He recently co-chaired a coalition with Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker aimed at safeguarding democracy against disinformation campaigns and cyber threats.
