South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem confirmed on Friday that she has engaged in extensive discussions with President-elect Donald Trump regarding the border policy commonly referred to as 'remain in Mexico.' During a Senate session, Noem, who has been nominated by Trump to head the Department of Homeland Security, responded to inquiries from Republican Senator Josh Hawley about the policy.
Noem stated, 'The president and I have talked extensively about this and will 100% partner with him to reinstate the remain in Mexico policy.' It is anticipated that one of Trump's initial executive orders will involve initiating negotiations for the reinstatement of the 'Remain in Mexico' program, which mandated that migrants remain in Mexico while their immigration proceedings in the US were ongoing.
