California Governor Gavin Newsom, a prominent Democratic figure, refrained from expressing outright support for Vice President Kamala Harris' recent proposal aimed at implementing price controls in the food industry. Harris' campaign touted the initiative as a groundbreaking move to combat 'price-gouging.'
During an interaction, Governor Newsom stated that he had not yet reviewed the specifics of Harris' plan, emphasizing that the details had not been made public. When pressed about his stance on Harris' economic strategy, particularly the aspect related to price-fixing, Newsom evaded a direct response. On two occasions, he avoided answering the question, and at one point, his security guard physically intervened to prevent further inquiries.
Newsom hinted that he would assess the proposal once he had the opportunity to delve into its specifics. He mentioned that if the plan aligned with the approach taken by Senator Elizabeth Warren, he found it to be noteworthy and intriguing. The governor made these remarks during an event at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
