New York Gov. Kathy Hochul made a brief appearance at the wake of slain New York City Police Officer Jonathan Diller, leaving shortly after arriving at the funeral home on Friday afternoon. Video footage captured the governor engaging in conversation with a man outside the Massapequa Funeral Home on Long Island before promptly exiting, accompanied by applause.
The departure followed comments made by NYPD's Sergeants Benevolent Association President Vincent Vallelong, expressing skepticism about the intentions of elected officials attending Officer Diller's funeral. Vallelong criticized the potential presence of politicians as a distraction and a disservice to the memory of Officer Diller, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.
Former President Trump also paid his respects at Diller's wake, acknowledging the profound impact of the officer's sacrifice on his family and emphasizing the importance of upholding law and order in society.
Officer Diller, a 31-year-old father, was fatally shot on Monday by a violent ex-convict with a history of multiple arrests. The tragic incident occurred when police approached the suspect's vehicle, resulting in Officer Diller sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to the stomach.
