New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday that an indictment against the suspected murderer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Luigi Mangione, is expected to be issued by the Manhattan District Attorney's office imminently. Governor Hochul expressed confidence in the District Attorney's office, led by Alvin Bragg, assuring that the indictment would be solid and well-prepared.
Addressing the delay in the indictment, Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of ensuring a thorough and airtight case to prevent any potential challenges from defense attorneys. She stated, 'You want to get this right. You don't want to have anybody, a defense attorney, be able to attack what you've done.'
Furthermore, Governor Hochul confirmed that once the indictment is issued, she will promptly issue a warrant for the extradition of Mangione to New York. She revealed that discussions have taken place with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro regarding the extradition process.
Regarding the extradition warrant, Governor Hochul mentioned that she is prepared to issue it, pending Governor Shapiro's signature. A hearing date has been set for December 23rd to address the extradition matter, with both governors eager to expedite Mangione's return to New York.
