'Got one to give to Ireland' - Dykes targets Scotland Nations League payback

'Got one to give to Ireland' - Dykes targets Scotland Nations League payback

LYNDON DYKES insists Scotland owe Ireland one after the dreadful defeat in Dublin.

Steve Clarke's side fell to a nightmare 3-0 defeat against Ireland in the first meeting in the Nations League group and are seeking redemption as the nations meet again in Glasgow this weekend.

Dykes is determined to inflict some retaliation to the Ireland team after the loss in Dublin and reckons the comfortable win over Ukraine will have his team-mates full of confidence for another massive night at Hampden.

"It's going to give us massive confidence," said Dykes after the Ukraine win.

"We've got one to give to Ireland as well because last game that wasn't up to the standard we should have been at.

"We have to take that confidence into that game and make sure we get three points.

"We wanted to prove everyone wrong. We wanted to show we could have done better on the night (against Ukraine in the summer), it wasn't that but we had to put our heads back to the training ground work hard, and we done that tonight.

"We're focused on the group now and it's a good start to the three games."

Dykes climbed off the bench to notch a double an ensure a huge win to take Scotland top of the Nations League group.

The striker - who chose Scotland over Australia - powered home two headers as he linked with fellow sub Ryan Fraser in a dominant closing period at Hampden.

Reflecting on the win, Dykes commented: "Obviously I wanted to impact the game. I was disappointed that I wasn't playing.

"The manager went with Che because there is good competition there but I came on, changed the game and we got three points so it was good.
