'Got a cheek' - Trent Alexander-Arnold sent message after Liverpool defender's 'Championship' criticism

Rio Ferdinand has come to the defence of Trent Alexander-Arnold after French World Cup winner Frank Lebouef criticised his defensive abilities.

Lebouef praised the Liverpool right-backs attacking qualities, stating that he "loves him", but went on to call his defending "Championship level" after some shaky for the Reds this season.

Alexander-Arnold has now been dropped from Gareth Southgate 's England squad as they prepare to take on Germany at Wembley tonight in the Nations League.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand leapt to the defence of Alexander-Arnold after learning about the Frenchman said - calling out his own defensive abilities.

"Are you winding me up? It’s disrespectful, some people get too disrespectful,” Ferdinand told the FIVE YouTube channel (via the Express ). "Leboeuf defensively wasn’t the best by the way, so he’s got a cheek.”

Alexander-Arnold has had to deal with plenty of criticism so far this season with Liverpool making a poor start to the new campaign. As one of the Reds' key players, a lot is expected of the 23-year-old and he has failed to reach the heights of previous seasons.
