'Gordon Ramsay knows he doesn't need to be as nasty anymore', says chef Angela Hartnett

Gordon Ramsay has got softer and knows life in the kitchen doesn’t need to be as fiery any more, chef Angela Hartnett has said.

Hartnett, Ramsay’s protegee, said she and the 55-year-old Hell’s Kitchen star have had “frank conversations” about how times have changed’.

Hartnett said there is no longer a need to be nasty and people would be surprised at how calm restaurant kitchens are now.

Hartnett, 53, renowned for her Italian cooking style, employs 100 staff at her restaurants and is “insistent they have a normal working life”.

The chef patron at swanky Murano in Mayfair, said to Jay Rayner in his Out To Lunch podcast: “Everyone wants to see a Gordon-esque type kitchen but actually most kitchens these days, are calm and quiet.

“[There’s] music playing in the background, everyone is enjoying it.

“There will always been a bit of tension in kitchens.

“But you don’t have to be nasty, you don’t have to be a bully. We have had frank conversations about things like that. Even he knows life’s not like that any more. It’s not worth it.

“If I’ve had a go at someone, and I come away feeling as stressed as they do, that’s not good for me.”

"There will always been a bit of tension in kitchens in the sense that there's a sense of urgency and I don't think there's anything wrong with that."

The chef continued: "There's that adrenaline and I can snap but I think you don't have to be nasty, you don't have to be a bully, that's for sure.

"I probably have [said that to Ramsay before].

"We have had frank conversations about things like that.

"Even he knows life's not like that anymore for God's sake, it's not worth it.

"If I've had times where I've had a go at someone, and I come away feeling as stressed as they do, that's not good for me, so why would you do it to other people?

"It's not healthy."

Earlier this month it was reporter Gordon has flogged one of his huge Cornish homes for a whopping £7.5million – which is almost double for what he bought it for.

The house that Gordon and his family fled to during the Covid-19 pandemic, was bought by the TV chef back in 2016 – for a hefty £4million.

But since owning his seaside abode, he's earned around half a million quid each year, because it's now worth almost double what he bought it for.

Not only has his property earned him a ton of cash, but it's said to be the most expensive sale ever recorded in the seaside county.

The 55-year-old TV favourite sold his Trebetherick home in March 2021, according to Land Registry documents, and it is said to be the most expensive sale in Cornwall across 2021.
