Today, GOP senators are set to convene to elect a new leader, marking the end of Mitch McConnell's 18-year tenure. The meeting will feature nominating speeches from several key members.

Sen. John Thune will have the honor of receiving nominating speeches from Sen. Mike Rounds, a fellow South Dakotan senator, and Sen. Steve Daines, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) who played a pivotal role in securing a GOP majority in the recent elections.

Sen. Rick Scott, on the other hand, will be nominated by Sen. Marco Rubio, a fellow senator from Florida, and Sen. Bill Hagerty from Tennessee.

Interestingly, Sen. John Cornyn's office has chosen to keep the identity of the individuals delivering his nominating speeches under wraps.

This leadership transition within the GOP is significant as it marks a new chapter for the party after nearly two decades under McConnell's guidance. The nominating speeches today will set the stage for the selection of a new leader who will be tasked with steering the party through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
