A group of GOP senators, including Tommy Tuberville, Roger Marshall, Bill Cassidy, Bill Hagerty, Mike Lee, Jim Risch, Marco Rubio, and Rick Scott, have sent a letter to acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe requesting enhanced protection for former President Donald Trump. This request comes in the wake of an apparent assassination attempt against Trump over the weekend.
The letter emphasized the importance of providing Trump with the same level of protection as a sitting president. The senators called for additional protective resources and greater staffing capabilities to secure a broader perimeter around Trump.
During a news conference, some of the senators reiterated their plea for increased security measures for Trump. However, Senator Marshall clarified that the Secret Service does not require additional funding, stating that they have sufficient personnel and resources but need to prioritize their deployment effectively.
The senators' letter has sparked renewed scrutiny of the Secret Service's ability to safeguard Trump. The former president himself expressed the need for more security personnel, mentioning a conversation with President Joe Biden regarding the matter.
JD Vance, Trump's running mate, also weighed in on the issue, asserting that Trump should receive the same level of Secret Service protection as Biden. The call for heightened security measures for Trump reflects concerns about potential future threats against the former president.
