Republican Representative Nick LaLota from New York has announced his support for the budget resolution, expressing optimism that House Speaker Mike Johnson will successfully advance a crucial House budget aligned with the Trump administration's priorities.
LaLota emphasized the track record of meeting deadlines under Speaker Johnson's leadership in recent years, highlighting the ability to fund the government and maintain stability. He remains hopeful for a similar outcome this time.
He clarified that the upcoming vote is primarily procedural, marking a significant initial step in fulfilling the commitments made by President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers during their campaigns.

Addressing concerns about entitlement programs, LaLota assured that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are not under consideration despite the Republican goal of reducing spending by $1 trillion.
On the topic of Medicaid, he outlined three key priorities shared by Republicans: removing undocumented individuals from Medicaid coverage, introducing work requirements for capable adults, and tackling widespread waste, fraud, and abuse in state systems.
While acknowledging opposition to extensive Medicaid cuts, LaLota welcomed President Trump's recent statement opposing deep reductions in Medicaid funding. He emphasized the lack of sufficient support in the House for substantial cuts and reiterated his personal stance against such measures.
