Goosey returns as Goose Fair 2022 set to get under way

Goosey the Goose Fair Goose has returned to the city to mark the start of the annual Goose Fair at the Forest Recreation Ground. The eight-foot-tall goose is now on her nest at Mansfield Road Roundabout.

Traditionally, Goosey comes out of hiding and has been sitting on the roundabout since the 1960s. The model is made from timber and fibreglass and weighs about a quarter of a tonne.

Motorists were treated to the sight of the Goose after she was placed on her nest late last night. Goosey will remain on the roundabout for the duration of the fair.

This year marks the first Goose Fair in three years as it was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. Last year, Goosey sat on a temporary plinth in Old Market Square to mark what would have been the 730th Goose Fair. The fair has only been cancelled ten times in its long history, including in both world wars.

To make up for lost time, the fair will take place over ten days for the first time in history starting on Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 9. There are more than 250 rides and attractions at the event and it is one of the largest travelling fun fairs in Europe.

There will be new rides at the fair including 'the void extreme' and old favourites such as ‘Ice Jet Matterhorn,’ ‘Star Flyer’ and two ‘Giant wheels’ will return to thrill audiences. Classic rides such as ‘Gallopers’ and the ‘Cake Walk’, the only ride still operating that featured when the fair was still held in Old Market Square, will also return.

The Nottingham Post are once again offering vouchers for the historic fair. The coupons can be found in the Nottingham Post on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th September, Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th October. The vouchers will come as 50p off vouchers which equates to £20.

Vouchers can be used during opening hours Monday to Thursday and from 4.00 pm until 6.00 pm on Fridays. The vouchers are not valid after 6.00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
