'Goosebumps' - Newcastle United supporters rejoice following capture of Bruno Guimarães

Newcastle United have confirmed Brazil international Bruno Guimarães as their third signing of the January transfer window and supporters have rushed to social media to rejoice.

The highly-rated midfielder has signed from French side Lyon and penned a four-and-a-half year contract at St James' Park.

Excitement has been building among supporters ever since the 24-year-old was first linked and they have taken to Twitter to give the signing their seal of approval.

@joeypayne17 tweeted: "Reckon it’s the first time I’ve had goosebumps reading a tweet. The lad could genuinely win the Ballon d’Or. For those catching up and watching his highlights, you’re in for an extra treat when you see how hard he works and how far he runs. Will be a hero at St James’."

@NUFCOpinion1982 tweeted: "Quality signing. We've lacked a bit of grit, bite, composure and passing ability in the middle of the pitch! Welcome Bruno!"

@SonicElevation tweeted: "FINALLY! Starting to feel better about staying up."

@BelfastNUFC tweeted: "Looks like a smashing signing, a good age as well. If the future is to be as bright as we all hope, he could be a massive part of it."

@SoloDanny0 tweeted: ""These are the type of signings that’ll convince others of the new #nufc project."

@nufcoliverr tweeted: "After eight years we’ve finally done it We’ve finally bagged the [Yohan] Cabaye replacement."

Speaking to the official Newcastle website about the latest addition to his squad, head coach Eddie Howe said: "Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I'm delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.

"He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him. We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty."

Eddie Howe's side occupy 18th place in the Premier League but had already been boosted by the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood before a deal was struck for Guimarães.

The Magpies emerged victorious on their last Premier League outing and will be looking to climb out of the relegation zone when they return to action on 8 February against Everton.

Guimarães is currently on international duty with Brazil and will travel to Tyneside next week after his homeland have taken on Paraguay, who his new teammate Miguel Almiron represents.
