Goose to be put down after being 'attacked by gang'

A goose will have to be put down after reportedly being attacked by a gang.

Merseyside Police received reports of a gang of youths attempting to injure geese along Brook Street in St Helens on March 22. A police community support officer and the RSPCA were called to scene following reports of an injured bird.

After assessing its injuries, it was determined that the goose would have to be euthanised due to its poor condition.

Police are now asking for anyone with information or CCTV footage to contact them. Police said in a statement: "Unfortunately earlier this afternoon our local PCSO was called to the area following reports of an injured bird.

"The RSPCA have since been in attendance to assist our officer and sadly the goose will have to be euthanised due to it's poor condition. If you see this type of activity please call Merseyside Police - 101 or 999 in an emergency.

"Alternatively you can report via Twitter Merseyside Police Contact Centre or Facebook - Merpol CC. We will now be making contact with nearby premises, seeking CCTV footage to identify and arrest the offender/s.

"If you have information you believe could assist us, please use any of the above reporting methods or you can report anonymously using Crimestoppers - 0800 555 111."

The ECHO has approached the RSPCA for comment.
