Google Maps is used around the world to help users navigate and find their destinations.
The site is one of Google ’s most useful tools and offers the chance to drop a pin and view a street pretty much anywhere.
But Google Maps has many locations which are not visible for different reasons, such as being top secret government locations or mysterious islands.
One of these locations is Kos International Airport in Greece.
The site on the idyllic Kos Island is visited by thousands of tourists every year.
Kos International Airport mainly serves charter airlines who carry passengers travelling to the island on holiday.
It was built in 1964 and expanded over the years as global travel took off.

Going to Google Maps and trying to view the airport on the island in the Aegean Sea will show a blurred site.
The airport runway and terminals can just about be seen but any further detail is impossible.
The island itself is located very close to Turkey and many people who visit take the chance to go island hopping and visit other locations in the area.
The summer is peak time with most arrivals coming from German and British airlines as holidaymakers seek some sun and sea.
Before Covid the airport had been steadily growing and in 2019 more than two and a half million people passed through, mostly from international flights.
It is unknown why Kos International Airport is not visible on Google Maps but one theory is that it is done as a matter of routine for security reasons.
Airports are places with a high number of people passing through each day and blurring it could be thought of as a way to protect the site.
Whatever the reason, tourists travelling to Kos Island will need to find another way to navigate around the airport as Google Maps shows very little of the site.
