Google is bringing a 'fart noise' to go with the poo emoji on Android messages

Google has announced six of its text emojis will soon come with sound effects, including a fart noise going with the poo symbol.

Users can also hear clapping, laughing, crying, partying and a drum roll if they select corresponding emojis during a chat.

The six special ‘audio emojis’ can be selected in a separate search window from the standard emojis within the SMS application.

The move brings chat functions on Google and Android devices in line with Meta, which put sounds to emojis in 2021 for Facebook. There aren’t any sound emojis on WhatsApp... yet.

The app is set to be a fully-fledged function on Google-led phones in the months to come but at the moment it can be tried out at the beta stage

Once the beta version is downloaded, you can click on ‘manage apps and devices’, and then ‘updates available’.

While not the peak of high brow, the fart noise is apparently something that users of Google and Android have been calling for.

Super Mills tweeted last year: “Fart noise, I want a fart noise soundboard clip to insert into tweets. There's no emoji that captures a fart noise. It's not the poo emoji, that's poo, I need a clean fart noise.”

And way back in 2014, Ryan Rosenblatt tweeted: “There needs to be a fart noise emoji so I can properly convey my thoughts.”

But, others, are feeling that some noises are not best heard outside the bathroom.

Quentyn Kennemer, in The Verge, wrote: “The dormant adolescent in me wants to try the poop button at least once with a trusted friend who won’t disown me for having a questionable sense of humour.

“Personally, I’d much rather hear these sounds (except farts) in my conversations as organic, genuine reactions.”
